I saw this book all over booktube and bookstagram.

My first thought was: LKFHJoaiuroeuargvüfo JACK THE RIPPER?! I NEED IT!

And then, I finally bought it and read it as soon as it arrived in my little home ^^

Before I started SJTR I was in a reading slump, but this book totally got me out of that hell.

I never actually take notes while reading, but then I read the sentence: "I had no idea my innards were composed of cotton and kittens, while yours were filled with steel and steam-driven parts."

Of course I had to mark it with a sticky note. And now there are 36 in total.

There was no boring part at all and I totally fell for Kerri's writing style. 

Another sentence I really love:

"Little name tags peeked out above the folders like islands breaking through an ocean of ink and paper."

I had so many theories and from every theory I had, there were some parts that were true.

 

Let's talk about some of the characters:

 

• Our protagonist Audrey Rose.

I loved her! Even though men didn't think of women being capable of slicing up a corpse, or at least it wasn't "appropriate", she did it because it made her happy...Wow that sounds as if she'd be completely mad. Let's just say she is very interested in science. Sounds better, right?

And she is a total tsundere and no-one can tell me otherwise. For all non-anime-watching-people: 

 

Tsundere is a slang born on the Internet, and it is a word to describe the nature of female anime or game characters. Tsundere is a word combining two words, "Tsun Tsun" and "Dere Dere". Both terms describe attitudes of a person. "Tsun Tsun" is used for cold/blunt/curt attitude, while "Dere Dere" is used when a person becomes spoony in front of his/her lover. (Thank you Urban Dictionary)

 

 She sure is a rose with beautiful petals, but also has thorns. ;)  (If you read the book, you'll know what I am talking/writing about)

What a precious little cinnamon roll! Why isn't he real?!

He really reminded me of Will (The infernal devices by Cassandra Clare) and Jace (The mortal instruments by Cassandra Clare) 

I loved both of them but then I kind of stopped... (Because of Jem ^^) So I was afraid that I would't like Thomas at the end of the book anymore. BUT gladly I still love him as much as I did at the start of the book.

 

• Liza

She is just a side character, but I had to mention her, because:

SHE TOTALLY REMINDED ME OF MYSELF

You have no idea how funny and weird it is to read about someone who acts like yourself.

 

Of course there also is her uncle, father and brother, but I don't feel like talking about them XD Although I can say that I like all three of them. Especially her uncle.

 

The book was really interesting and made me think of Jack the ripper even more. 

I am not a huge fan of historical fiction, but if it's set in Victorian time period I'm most likely going to like, or even love it. 

The romance was so cute but I wouldn't say it was that dominant. (But I can't assess that, for I'm all about romance and cheesiness) 

I loved that Kerri described the dresses they were wearing, because I think they are so beautiful.

 

And when I finished the book, the only thing I could think of, was: I NEED THE SEQUEL!!

 

A book with a lot of true facts, beautiful writing, a bad-ass protagonist, a book boyfriend-worthy love interest and unsolved history.

Mystery, thriller, romance and a brutal serial killer. What'd you like more?

 

A clear 5 out of 5 ⭐️ read!
